Theoretical and Applied Economics

Given the changing landscape of today’s world, we believe that addressing sustainability of development and ensuring that benefits reach to the entire population, especially the lower segments of the society, is paramount to the future national economic planning. As suggested in the United Nations agenda for sustainable development which identifies 17 goals for countries to achieve sustainable and inclusive development, we believe that that identifying policies that enables conditions for inclusive growth would help bridge economic, social, and environmental gaps. We also believe, that such policy-oriented research is relevant to the initiatives suggested under the Brunei Vision 2035 (Wawasan 2035) goals and strategies. It is, in this background that we establish the Sustainable and Inclusive Development (SID, hereafter) Research cluster within UBDSBE while attracting participation of researchers and policy makers within UBDSBE and beyond.

The main objective of SID is to provide a platform for researchers and policy planner to improve our understanding on the issue of sustainable and inclusive development (SID). The cluster aims to propose, initiate and share collaborative research projects and events leading to policy oriented and high impact research publications through engaging researchers within and outside UBDSBE as well as attracting internationally known researcher. The cluster also plans to host an annual forum (Brunei Economic Forum), with esteemed invited guests and panellists.
